Whether you’ve already submitted your application or you’re just checking out open positions, we want you to know exactly what to expect. We view our hiring process as a two-way conversation - it’s just as much about you figuring out if Meister is the right place for you as it is about us finding a great new team member.

The idea is for you to feel comfortable throughout the process so you can be yourself and show us you’ve got the potential to work beautifully together. Let’s take a closer look at each step.

Step 1: Recruiter interview

Focus: Motivation & Values Fit
Format: 30-minute video call

This initial conversation is focused on getting to know the human behind the resume. We want to understand what drives you, what you’re looking for in your next role, and how your personal values align with Meister’s culture. We’ll also touch on a high-level overview of your background, discuss salary expectations, notice periods, and answer any initial questions you have about working here.

How should you prepare?

The first conversation can be intimidating, but there’s no need to worry. We want you to feel at ease, be authentic and try to find out if Meister’s culture and the position fit your expectations. Our top tips:

  • Familiarize yourself. Reading the Meister website and blog will give you an overall feel for what we do and a chance to reflect on your company fit.

  • Tool up. Could you imagine using, championing or developing MindMeister or MeisterTask on a daily basis? Try them out!

  • Get technical. If you’re applying for an engineering position, acquaint yourself with our Apps, Integrations and APIs and check out the help centers for each of the tools.

  • Bring your questions: Ask us about flexible working, team culture, or anything else on your mind!

Step 2: Hiring Manager Interview

Focus: Experience Fit
Format: 30-minute video call

It’s time to dive into the specifics of the role. You’ll meet directly with your future manager to discuss your career journey, past achievements, and technical background.

Rather than grilling you on abstract theory, we want to hear real stories from your past experience: how you approach complex problems, how you make decisions, and what lessons you've learned along the way.

How should you prepare?

This step is all about showcasing your strengths, walking us through your professional journey, and highlighting how your experience connects directly to the role. Here’s how to make the most of it:

  • Highlight relevant projects: Be ready to share specific examples of past work—focusing on the unique strengths you brought to the table, the challenges you faced, and the results you delivered.

  • Connect your experience to the role: Re-read the job description and reflect on how your practical background and expertise align with what the team needs.

  • Share your problem-solving approach: Walk us through your decision-making style, how you navigate complex problems, and how your past experiences shape how you work today.

Step 3: Challenge & Stakeholder Review

Focus: Skill Fit
Format: Live Challenge (Video Call) or Take-Home Assignment + Review

image

This step is designed to see your practical expertise and execution in action. It gives us a hands-on look at your problem-solving capabilities while giving you a realistic preview of how we collaborate and address real-world challenges at Meister.

Depending on the role, this stage takes one of two interactive formats:

  • Live Challenge: A real-time collaborative working session where you and key stakeholders work through a realistic scenario together.

  • Take-Home Challenge: A focused, asynchronous task completed on your own schedule, followed by a review session with stakeholders to walk through your approach and solution.

We design every challenge to mirror actual work scenarios, focusing on practical execution, strategic thinking, and decision-making. For instance, you might be asked to design a technical solution for a new feature, outline a strategic marketing initiative, or walk through how you would lead a cross-functional project.

Regardless of the format, your recruiter will outline the exact structure in advance so you feel completely prepared to showcase your best work.

How should you prepare?

The challenge is a way for you to show us how you work and gives you an idea of the kinds of tasks you’ll be facing in your role. As tough as it sounds, it’s actually fun – and everyone loves a challenge, right? Here’s our advice on how to prepare:

  • Read the instructions carefully: Take your time reviewing the brief, guidelines, or prompt before diving in.

  • Ask clarifying questions: If anything is unclear, or if you need more context before or during the exercise, please ask! Proactive communication is a trait we value.

  • Focus on the "Why": We care just as much about your thought process, trade-offs, and reasoning as we do about the final output.

  • Embrace collaboration: We treat this stage as a joint working session, not an exam. Show us how you share ideas, communicate clearly, and adapt to feedback.

Step 4: leadership interview (optional)

Focus: Organisational Fit
Format: 30 minute video call (or in-person at our Vienna HQ if you are locally based)

image

You’ve shown us your skills and experience—now it’s time to look at the bigger picture. In this final interview, you’ll speak with a member of our leadership team to discuss strategy, company trajectory, and high-level vision.

This stage ensures long-term alignment: where Meister is heading, where you want your career to go, and how you can make a lasting impact on our organization.

How should you prepare?

  • Connect your background to our vision: Be ready to discuss how your past experiences, skills, and core values align with Meister’s vision and long-term direction.

  • Bring strategic questions: This is your opportunity to ask leadership about company vision, growth plans, and long-term goals.

Step 5: The Offer Call

If you’ve made it to this stage, congratulations! The offer call is where we’ll discuss the terms of your employment, including salary, benefits, and starting date. This is your chance to ask any final questions before making your decision.

How should you prepare?

  • Review the job offer details carefully

  • Have any final questions ready

  • Be prepared to discuss your start date and any other logistics

Your time to shine

We hope by now you realize that Meister’s hiring process is designed to give you the chance to showcase your skills and characteristics within a stress-free and supportive environment. You’ll receive honest and informative feedback, regardless of the outcome.
